Maritime and History
Because the Sunshine Coast is physically isloated from the mainland, it developed originally in the same way as the rest of the British Columbia coast: from the water in. [fishing]? and [logging]? brought people to the resources, and later [canneries]? needed even more people.
When in operation, the Sunshine Coast Maritime Museum preserved and interpreted some of this history. The Maritime Museum continues to tell its story as part of the new Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives.
The Underwater Archaeological Society of BC researches submerged heritage and organizes projects to discover and document wrecks. Many wrecks lie off the Sunshine Coast.
