“Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it” - Buddha Quote of the Day

Mike Clement (604-885-3701) has been involved with maritime heritage on the Sunshine Coast for many years. He was actively involved as a board member of the Sunshine Coast Maritime Museum when it amalgamated with the Elphinstone Pioneer Museum in May of 2002.

He has also been involved with the Underwater Archaeological Society of BC for many years.

On 21 November, Cliff talked to Mike about heritage on the coast.

Les Peterson originally started the EPM in Gibsons, collecting and writing about the whole coast. Started with bits and pieces of collection the whole region. Started as a regional museum. Since comunity museums springing up, SCMA.

Fred Inglis was involved with the [Heritage Trail]?; it began partly as an attempt to preserve the story of the remains of a flume from 1800s on Mt Elphinstone.

SCMA has the vision of having some info for all the places, and to be respected as the senior museum. Wants to assist and help with funding and research.

[Billy Griffiths]? in Egmont has a yard full of stuff and may be looking for a location. The collection is in Egmont and is likely to stay.

Look in Business Plan for potential heritage partners.

Ted and Barrie have ties to Port Mellon. There is a book [A History of Port Mellon]?. 800 copies are at museum.

Bob Nygren family has been fishers on the coast. Good working history of the community.

Gibsons Heritage Advisory Commission liaises with Gibsons town council so admin decisions don't adversly affect heritage values.
