The Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives society was created in May of 2002 to govern the new museum created (under the same name) from the amalgamation of the Sunshine Coast Maritime Museum and the Elphinstone Pioneer Museum. Bee Jackson is currently (2002/12/01) the curator/manager of the museum.
The SMCA archival holdings of the archives (24 fonds) can viewed from the British Columbia Archival Information Network (BCAIN).
A business plan was created to guide the board through the amalgamation and provide direction, including a new Mission and Vision, for the new museum.

In July of 2002 the museum received a grant from the Museum Assitance Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage to do a Regional Heritage Strategic Plan.
